How can I help my student?
Ask your student specifics about what they learned at school today.
Insist that your student set aside electronics and distractions for about 30 minutes of reading (or listening to an audiobook, podcast, etc.) each night.
Read/listen together or even read aloud to your child (if he or she will let you!).
Quiz your students about the period/ region of history we are covering in class or the geography of that region.
Take time to read yourself. Let your child see you reading. Talk about what you read with your child. Listen to audiobooks together. Watch together the movie version of a book you've read together. Listen to podcasts together.
Read through your student’s writing with him/her at home, or ask your student to read aloud their writing to you.
