Grading Policy
Late Work/Redos:
In my class students have the opportunity to make up or redo work as much as they want for full credit until the week of a semester final exam. After this point, late work will be accepted
As an educator, I believe in revision over failure. This means that I am invested in the learning process and acknowledge that revision is a necessary step toward understanding.
Classroom Routines and Procedures
1) Turning in work: As students walk into class they can turn their work in by placing it in their class' tray. This should be quick and then students should start on the bellringer for the day.
2) Bell Ringer: There will be an activity or a quiz on the board reviewing the material from the previous lesson. Students should be in their seats completing this within 1 minute of the bell ringing.
3) Direct Instruction: After the bell ringer we will typically have a short period of direct instruction where I will introduce the new material for the day. This will be accompanied with a google slide that students should be able to find on google classroom.
4) Indirect Instruction: This is time when students will complete an activity or project in order to demonstrate and build their understanding of the content.
5) Class Discussion: Near the end of the lesson we will come together to discuss what we have learned and what our thoughts/opinions on it is. This allows us to make sure that everyone is on the same page and allows for clarification.
6) Bathroom: To prevent interruptions during lecture students will use the ASL sign for the letter "R." Once I have given the student permission to go they will need to sign out using the sign out chart near the door.
7) Absence: If you know you are going to be absent please reach out to me to get instructions for what you are going to miss. If you are unexpectedly absent, you should be able to see what you missed in class on google classroom.
8) Food and Drinks: Water is allowed in containers with a lid. No other food or drink is to be brought into the classroom unless Mr. Heaps is giving it out. School breakfast and lunch should stay in the SJHS commons unless a student is working over lunch.
